Poem: Dark Secret #napowrimo2021

Dark Secret

When midnight tolled the ancient bell

upon the earth great darkness fell

those awake with ears to hear

found their hearts all froze with fear

night birds stopped their heavenly song

which in this night did not belong

what secret slipped between the trees?

whose prayer cried out upon their knees?

from midnight moon to rising sun

when morning greets the hidden one

these secrets shall not be revealed

for witches' lips are ever sealed

Poem: Night

Night

next to you, I'm counting sheep
the quiet kind with silent bleats
that chase away the howling wolves
a cacophony of silence
morning comes in brilliant rays
of sharpened light on rustling leaves
joyful birds sing up the sun as
nightbirds put the moon to bed
sleep well, my love, and dream of me
restless on the midnight sea
with waves of salt and thunder
when you awake I'll greet you there
where goddesses have gathered
eternal land where Earth meets Sky
and gods embrace the battle
but now, my love, I hope for sleep
I close my eyes and count the sheep
while you dream away the night
and softly snore beside me

Poem: Poetry of Night

the poetry of night calls, unbidden
disappears before dawn;
the usual
disappointments
only one meets

expectation
yet only after
relinquishment
of desire

Poem: The Color of Twilight

This, the color of twilight
Breath caught on desert breeze
Gentle whispers of bird on wing
Heart awakened to Westward longings
Memories of tender imaginings
The words falling from fluttered leaves
Turned anticipatory, wide possibilities
Rivers to cross, roads to be wandered
White fenced, Rosie cheeked, aproned
Mother waiting, gregarious, welcome
Homely comfort in a cuppa tea
After adventures in dark forests and
Fiery valleys, Mysterious Others
Turned enemies or friends --
Speaking open doors and closing
Others; hush now the roiling waters
Of curious, cumbersome youth
Listen, hear the softer whispers
Of gentle twilight, and the mews
Of a kitten, curious, searching
For her bed

Haiku: Lucidity

Seeking lucid dreams

Closed eyes against moon's pearl light

Stepping into dark
