Poem: Precipice

On the edge of tomorrow
The world is eclipsed
By sorrow
Contentment seeks
Madness,
Believing there is safety
In illusion

Poem: Shooting Star

I'm sure I saw a shooting star
This morning to the West
I made a wish for excellence
That I could do my best
I closed my eyes and dreamed
A dream of Hope and inspiration
Prayed a prayer of safety for
The children of our nation
The shooting star burned bright
And fast like life upon this Earth
I stood a while in darkness and
Pondered on the worth
Of lives well-lived and voices heard
And hearts both brave and strong;
Gave thanks for those courageous ones
Who work to right the wrong
I'm sure I saw a shooting star
That arced across the sky
And left behind a rune of Hope
No need to question why

Poem: In My Hand

In My Hand
In my hand, new life
What new life?
It’s death
Only by dying do we live.
Dying to hate
Dying to fear
Dying to violence
In my hand, death
What death?
It’s life
This beating heart
Breaking with the
Tears of the world
Awake, my dying soul
Awake to love
Awake to peace
Awake to hope
In my hand,
New Life!

Poem: False Love

I do not understand
This love affair with death
When young, we kiss the snake,
Initiatory
Survivors come away
Muscles strong from the struggle
Some elude the coils altogether
Some grasp the tail, whipped
Against hard ground until
One day, eyes open
They find themselves
Thrown onto desert sands, death
Slipped away, leaving
A slender trail behind
Others, caught in her coils
Succumb while young, lost souls
No chance at Life

The trail she leaves is a reminder
Of her kiss; intrigued
Some turn back, following ethereal
Memory, they seek her embrace
Before their time
They find her wonderful, in guises
Both beautiful and terrible
They cannot turn away

Older now, I see her ploy
To lure us away before our time,
Deny our right to Glorious Life
I do not understand
This love affair with death,
For she is not real, this impostor
Begging garlands placed before her,
Gifts of lives gathered from the
Blossoms of their souls

True Death looks upon us from afar
Lovingly awaiting our embrace
She knows Her day
She wants us whole, snakebites
Healed by time and Love for one another
Our souls decked out in Happiness and
The trail to the false one’s lair
A memory best forgotten

Poem: Belonging - Twenty Three of 30 #NaPoWriMo

Look skyward, friend
Let the soul that is you
Float free upon the breeze

Become one with the sky
With the Spirit that Is
All That Is; let it be blue
Or alabaster, floating mist,
Tears unshed for Souls
Not yet departed, clouds
Precipitating dreams, or
Simply sky, atmosphere
Beyond borders, fences
Useless, for where souls
Soar, none are uninvited

Poem: Choice

What choice is there?

This life of promises,

Broken; walls appear

In unexpected places,

Dreams shift and darken

in the fitful sleep

of daily life.  The

dull plodding, the

shuffle of unwanted

burden, responsibility

Where is the bright hope

of youth?

O oblivion of childish

hopes, carnival of

lost innocence/innocents...

remember?

Turn the shuffle of

disillusion to the lift

step, move,

lift, step, move, lift

step, move of

walking meditation

In the center, choose

your Way out

of the dark

Poem: Under Stars

Under stars
They lay prone, backs
Flat, bending blades
Fragrant grasses,
Fresh mowed autumn
Fingers interlaced, they
Speak of the vast
Unknown, silently
Aware of attraction
Mysterious electricity
Tingling, unspoken yearning
This moment of eternity,
A memory

Poem: This Autumn Day

There is Love
This Autumn Day
Though sweltering in
Desert heat
And the knowledge
Of fires and the
Burning political unrest
In far away places
There is Love
Knowing that though
Hearts burn with
Unrequited desire, and
Souls burn for freedom
While children sink
Below the depths, still
In the light of Faith
There is Hope
In the warmth of Hope
There is Love
Always
At the tips of our fingers
In the corners of our hearts
In the shadows of tears
Though sweltering in
Desert heat
This Autumn day
There is Love

Poem: The Perfect Day

This day, the perfect
Day, as any other
The sun has risen, there is still
The song of birds at my window
Light breeze dapples sunlight
Between leaves, wafting
Fresh green scent from
Herbs freshly watered
This day, a new
Day, a new vision of hope
Without which there could
Be no other perfect days
No other recollections of love
Nor expectations of wonder
The sun has risen, and I
In my heart know
That the moon will rise
Bright in the night
To shine upon my dreams
Once again

Un-foretold future

Nevertheless reminds us

That someone awaits
