distant sirens herald
someone's sorrow
someone's fear;
falling silent
with their passing,
my heart breaks
for stranger's
unbidden distress

Poem: In My Hand
In My Hand
In my hand, new life
What new life?
It’s death
Only by dying do we live.
Dying to hate
Dying to fear
Dying to violence
In my hand, death
What death?
It’s life
This beating heart
Breaking with the
Tears of the world
Awake, my dying soul
Awake to love
Awake to peace
Awake to hope
In my hand,
New Life!
What new life?
It’s death
Only by dying do we live.
Dying to hate
Dying to fear
Dying to violence
In my hand, death
What death?
It’s life
This beating heart
Breaking with the
Tears of the world
Awake, my dying soul
Awake to love
Awake to peace
Awake to hope
In my hand,
New Life!

Poem: Childish Games - Thirteen of 30 NaPoWriMo
Touch not the faded flower;
Her tender petals waiver,
Bruised by breezes once
Weathered without circumstance
Now withered edges curl, burned
In sunshine, no longer her delight
Leaves lacking moisture, once
Plump face has lost her luster
She stands; without a friend,
Holds dearly to the garden path
Singing while each falls:
"He loves me; he loves me not"

Poem: Choice
What choice is there?
This life of promises,
Broken; walls appear
In unexpected places,
Dreams shift and darken
in the fitful sleep
of daily life. The
dull plodding, the
shuffle of unwanted
burden, responsibility
Where is the bright hope
of youth?
O oblivion of childish
hopes, carnival of
lost innocence/innocents...
remember?
Turn the shuffle of
disillusion to the lift
step, move,
lift, step, move, lift
step, move of
walking meditation
In the center, choose
your Way out
of the dark

Poem: sea otter
"methinks you are more
comfortable with
one toe in a boundary"
she said...
as we discussed my
recent slip into selfish
indignation, my
declaration of independence
belied by my fears
of non-acceptance
my toes will only
point one direction
at a time! i cried
i dip them in this
water, then that...
full immersion feels
like drowning...
Yet, it is all one
vast and living ocean
all waters come to
play in the bay
with the sea otters
for awhile
footprints in the sand
are washed away
with the waves of
eternal ebb and flow
sea otter, i shall slip
into the waters with
the others, holding hands
that we might not
drift apart
